Ruth has 25 years of experience in professional services and education, holding positions including Principal and CEO in Further Education. Ruth previously set up and ran a national education charity, founded by Lord Baker, now supporting a network of 20+ industry-led Career Colleges across the UK. Ruth has a passion for applying business principles and regional partnerships to educational ventures, to ensure their long-term sustainability. Ruth is an Honorary Fellow of UCL Institute of Education and holds several voluntary positions in support of education.

Kieran Gordon

Executive Director, Careers England


Kieran assumed the role of Executive Director with Careers England in July 2020, following a successful career as CEOI of  Career Connect from its formation and its initial incorporation as GMCP in 2001 to present day. Kieran has an extensive track record of providing careers advice and guidance services to young people and adults for more than 30 years. The Companies he has led have been commissioned by Government and other public sector and private sector agencies since 1996.


Key areas of expertise and experience:

  • Leadership and management of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) services for young people and adults, working with Secondary schools, Colleges of Further Education, Work Based Training Providers and employers.
  • Policy and strategy development of IAG services with UK Government departments and Local Authority Children’s Trusts.
  • Development of a large skilled IAG workforce in Career Connect delivering services to clients in a wide range of settings at neighbourhood, Local Authority and Regional level.
  • Leading a Company that has been successful in increasing the proportion of young people participating and progressing in learning and employment and reducing youth unemployment in successive years since its formation.
  • Development of Career Connect as a Company with local and national respect and recognition for its services to young people and adults.
  • Development of employability services to offenders in NW; in custody and through the gate into community rehabilitation.
  • Development of Social Investment strategies and Investor relations to increase reach of services and grow business.
  • Providing expertise in the formulation of UK Government policy and strategy with key Departments of State.
